(Updated 30/11/21) The new traffic light settings will become effective to the whole of New Zealand on Friday 3rd December. Vaccinated people will get to enjoy more freedoms as the COVID-19 Protection Framework protects the country from the disease. The traffic light system in Auckland will go to the red setting. To view which area’s of the country are in each setting you can check the map here https://covid19.govt.nz/traffic-lights/traffic-light-map/

Book your car rental early as we expect a high volume of people wanting to leave and return to Auckland starting Wednesday 15th December, with the Auckland border being lifted to allow fully vaccinated people to travel easily across the Auckland border during the Christmas period. Unvaccinated people will only be allowed to leave Auckland if a Covid-19 test is negative 72 hours before departure. “Random spot checks” will be conducted by police as enforcement.

At Red we are limited in where we can go, yet there are everyday activities that everyone can enjoy. There are many things you can do such as meet friends and family inside and outdoors, shop, get healthcare, go to school, and travel. In order to enter places with vaccination requirements in place under the traffic light system, you will be legally required to provide your My Vaccine Pass. Examples include hospitality venues, events, gatherings, and gyms. Travel throughout New Zealand is permitted at Red, except for temporary restrictions in Auckland from 3 December 2021.

From 15 December 2021 to 17 January 2022, anyone can travel to or from Auckland for any reason. Please follow the below guidelines:

  • You must be fully vaccinated and have your My Vaccine Pass with you, or
  • You must carry evidence of a negative COVID-19 test received within 72 hours before crossing the boundary.

Orange allows people to continue doing their everyday activities. Those at risk are protected by restrictions to prevent the virus from spreading. However, you can go to work, school, gyms, churches, restaurants, and many other places. If they do not follow the requirements of My Vaccine Pass, there will be a limit on how many people can enter a venue at any one time. Orange allows you to travel anywhere for any reason.
